The Final Strike – Standard Big Axe Marathon
There were a lot of tired faces shuffling through the doors today, totally expected and 100% warranted.
We’ve all just been through 10 weeks of league play in 2 days.
It’s madness, right? I mean, who actually does this for fun? LOL..
ok, yeah, it’s us.. We do.
Isn’t it crazy the lengths you’ll go for the things you love? ⭐🥰🪓
⭐Big Axes - that’s exciting, right? Considering the calibre of throwers in this event, it was extremely exciting for us. ust mean big axes)
We started the morning out in the best way possible (again) with Chef Panda’s delicious bacon & egg muffins, some even had cheese if that was your preference… at the ever so popular Tex’AS Breaky BBQ -
Just in case we didn’t mention this before, the Tex”AS Breaky BBQ was to raise funds for one of our very special league members, Tex. She’s travelling to Canada in a few short months to throw at the International Axe Throwing Championships in Toronto. If you’ve been lucky enough to come across Tex in the axe throwing world, then you would know that she is one of the kindest and most caring people you will meet.
She’s always the first to raise her hand and help anyone and everyone - and we felt like it was her turn to get a little something in return.
The proceeds of Tex’AS Breaky BBQ, alongside a raffle that we ran over the weekend AND some extremely kind donations from competitors, managed to raise $1000!
So if you played any part in that number reaching what it did, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts :)
Ok, enough with the cutesy stuff - let’s get back to it, shall we!
⭐Big Axes - that’s exciting, right.. Considering the calibre of throwers in this event, it was extremely exciting for us.
The current Queen of The North - Punkette, 🫶
The IATF Pacific Region Big Axe Champion, Panda, does it get any better?🫶
Well, of course it does, because on any given day, the match can be anyone's, and today was no different.
A day filled with exciting matches and the most nail-biting playoffs we’d seen all weekend!
🏆 Podium
🥇 Panda – keeping his title intact - Panda 🙂
🥈 Scuba Steve – giving Panda a run for his money, but also displaying a level of sportsmanship throughout their matches that should be studied. Great mates and even better competitors. It was the type of playoffs that you couldn’t choose who you wanted to win, because they both deserved it! (and because you know, you’re not meant to play favourites) These guys remained supportive and genuinely excited for each other throughout, and it was such a great finals vibe!
🥉 Flamingo - after battling it out with C-Man in one of the most intense matches of the weekend, Flamingo managed to snag the trifecta!
3 x 3rd place wins for the weekend, and the only competitor to earn a trophy from each day of the trilogy, a perfect set of three! ⭐
🎯 Bonus Achievements
⭐Most 1’s - Venom
Not where he usually excels, but a trophy win is still a win, right? Venom threw his hat in the ring to give Big Axe a go, and took home a cute little dinosaur foot for his efforts :)
⭐Most 3’s - Wing It
The race for the most 3’s was a tight one on this day, Wing It & GG love to go back and forth and even tie it up just for fun! But this one was all Fiona’s with 118 3’s for the day - GG wasn’t too far behind with Pax, both of them on 115 and Venom doing his best to catch them with 112!
⭐Most Bullseyes - C-Man
C-Man put on a show throughout the day - broken calculators and keeping us all on edge with his almost 81’s! It was intense! He still managed to take home his very own little dinosaur foot for the most bulls with 194 though! Panda was right behind him with 189 and Punkette was so close with 185!
⭐Most Clutches - Panda
30 Big Axe clutches in one day! What an absolute solid effort by Panda. He wasn’t alone though, Throwy Zoe was gaining on him with 24, and Axel Foley and Scuba Steve (Dirty Damo) both showed up with 23 and 22 respectively.
⭐Most Wins - Punkette
Our Queen of the North 👸 made sure to keep reminding every single competitor that she was here to stay with 18 out of 20 wins for the day. Axel Foley & Scuba Steve were too busy playing their own game against each other, both taking 17 wins each, and Throwy Zoe made sure to show the boys that she almost had them with 16 wins for the day!
Three days.
Over 40 hours of throwing.
Roughly 68,000+ axes (again… conservative).
Are we tired? Yes.
Would we do it again? Without hesitation.
