Casual versus elevated casual, part two.,

One thing over the years as a personal stylist is how we can look at an individual piece and automatically put it into a category i.e Casual or dressy. But it’s not always that straightforward.

Take this top, for example. It has a slightly dressier feel, but that doesn’t mean everything I wear with it needs to be dressy too.

When I’m working with clients, we look at the outfit as a whole. You might have a more elevated piece paired with relaxed silhouettes, casual footwear or softer fabrications and those elements can bring the overall level of dress right back down.
And the reverse is true too

It’s why I always encourage you to look beyond the one way you’re used to wearing something. You can get so much more out of your wardrobe when you understand how to work with different levels of dress.

Because sometimes it’s not that you need more clothes, it’s that you haven’t explored all the ways the pieces you already own can work together. Let me know if you’d like to see a part 3 👇

EVERY body is a shorts body. And yes, I mean yours too 🫶

When the warmer weather rolls around, one of the things I hear from women all the time is, “I just don’t like wearing shorts.”
And I get it. I used to be exactly the same.

But here’s something I’ve noticed over the years as a personal stylist. Often, it’s not that women don’t like shorts. It’s that the shorts they’ve tried in the past haven’t made them feel confident. And after enough disappointing trips to the change room, we start telling ourselves that certain pieces of clothing just aren’t for us.

I spent years hiding my legs away and I don’t want that for you.
What changed for me? Understanding how to dress my natural shape and how different silhouettes work with my shape and proportions. For me, that’s a high-rise waist, a little more room through the leg and a silhouette that drapes away from my hips rather than clinging to them. (No hard rules by the way)

Suddenly, I had SO many more options. And more importantly, I actually enjoyed wearing shorts. And that’s the thing about personal style. Sometimes it’s not about changing how you feel about your body. It’s about changing what you’re putting on it.
So if you’ve written shorts off because of a few styles you’ve tried in the past, consider this your sign to give them another go. There are so many different cuts, lengths, fabrics and silhouettes out there. You might just find one that changes your mind 🫶

How many times have you put on a basic outfit and it just felt totally flat?

Honestly, we’ve all been there. But before you change your putfit, try changing how you style them. Taking a look up a notch usually just comes down to a few little tweaks and the right accessories.

If you’d like links to these pieces and similar styles, just drop a ‘LINK ’ in the comments and i’ll DM you with links

If you’ve tried a hundred pairs of shorts and nothing ever seems to feel right, I promise there’s an option out there for you.

Particularly if you’re fuller through the hips, thighs and bottom, I know how hard it can be to find a pair that actually makes you feel confident.

An A-line Bermuda short silhouette is a great place to start. They often drapes from the hips, giving you room through the thigh without the fabric clinging or pulling.

This pair from .m_the_brand has so much of what I look for, a longer length, natural fibre and that A-line silhouette.

Let me know if you’d like to see a few more ways I’d style these 👇

Turquoise, teal, aqua, those gorgeous watery tones are everywhere right now. You’ve probably already spotted them popping up and you’re going to see a lot more coming through over the warmer months.

Keeping across what’s coming through is one of my favourite parts of being a stylist. It gives me the chance to look ahead and bring you a really great variety of options to explore.

I’ve put together a quick breakdown below with a mix of different styles and accessories, whether you just want a tiny pop of colour or go all in. You might even have something sitting in your wardrobe right now that’s ready to be brought back out.

If you’re curious to see more of this colour palette , I’ve curated some options for you to look through. Comment LINK and I’ll send them your way.
