IT IS STARTER STEP WEEK IN WEST COAST SWING CLASS TONIGHT! Now the big question is "Why only use this step or skill at the beginning of a dance, when you can use it during a dance as well?!" The answer is that you can move from closed into open, and from open into closed again, during your dancing to create different shapes and patterns!

CRACK THAT WHIP, IT'S WHIP NIGHT TONIGHT AT Social Swing Melbourne IN YARRAVILLE!
In Extensions we will BE challenging our assumptions about the whip by changing up handholds, experimenting with different entrances and exists, and exploring the lead and follow.
In Foundations we will be learning the basic structure of the whip, and cementing this basic foundation movement, as well as touching on basic footwork variations which can cause confusion for newbies.

4-STEP SOCIAL SWING IS A GREAT INTRODUCTION TO LEARNING TO SWING DANCE... it's an easy style of Swing that you can dance to 50s and 60 music as well as Jazz and Big Band. With a simpler style of footwork it is a great way to ease into more complicated styles such as Lindy Swing, and even Charleston, S**g and Balboa!

You can also level up this style, create more interesting footwork and movements, and use your musicality to express yourself to the music, as you become more comfortable and familiar with dancing :-)

In this video, Jei is demonstrating a few of the Cuddle moves that were taught recently in class, along with a few tips around how to make them work best.

Join the class every Tuesday night at The Victoria Hotel Yarraville with Beginners from 730pm, then moving into more technique and more advanced moves from 830pm. Why not join us for dinner at 630pm before class and meet everyone?!

WEST COAST SWING HAS SO MUCH RANGE OF SELF EXPRESSION AND MUSICALITY... every single dance you have is different, depending on who you dance with, the song, the musicality you are feeling in the moment, and even your mood at the time!

I absolutely adore dancing with Steph, as does every other student in class 😁 A great lead gives you a framework to play within, and holds a dance conversation with you that goes back and forth, with you both contributing. The oneupmanship you experience is like cheeky banter where you egg each other on to find your move and groove with each other, all while improvising to the music.

WEST COAST SOCIAL SWING - TONIGHT IS PUSHES!!

Open Practice @ 530pm

Dinner @ 6pm

Extensions @ 7pm is about shapes and frame, and we are going to go over the Tuck Turn while looking at how using breath and height change we affect follower body flow to put them onto a particular foot for the more advanced Tuck Turn that T+N use.

Foundations @ 745pm we will be doing pushes and making sure we are waiting for the redirect after the absorb, and playing a little with the anchor.

Social Dancing , if we ask nicely DJ The Fasaaabulous! may grace us with some tunes, else I've got a few WCS play lists I've co-opted from the pros!

Remember you need to be comfortable with all of your Foundations basics to participate in Extensions 😉

A BLAST BACK TO A COUPLE YEARS AGO... Dancing is for everyone, and dancing is about expressing yourself on the dance floor... if that means you want to be a male follow, or a female lead, or even if you want to be a switch who does both, the get out there and groove your butt off on the dance floor in the dance role your prefer!!

I love to lead, but here I am following Az who I taught to dance his basics in 4-step Swing.

Of course our location and group class days have changed, but the fun of dancing never changes!
