Ever feel like you just need your bestie to get through the workday? Researchers at the University of Illinois discovered that honey bees don’t just work blindly—they form selective social networks and choose specific “preferred partners” to groom, eat, and rest with. I think my new personality trait is telling everyone the fact that bees have best friends. Nature wins again!

Think bees are the only hard workers in the garden? Think again! While the European honey bee gets most of the credit, Australia is home to thousands of incredible native pollinators. From native stingless bees and bright butterflies to beetles, wasps, birds and bats! Many of our native bees are solitary and masters of “buzz pollination”—vibrating flowers at just the right frequency to release pollen for crops like tomatoes and blueberries. Combine them with hoverflies, birds, and nocturnal mammals, and you have an absolute powerhouse ecosystem. Landcare Australia

Every single fluffy honeybee you see outside started out looking exactly like a microscopic grain of rice Queen bees lay up to 2,000 of these tiny, translucent eggs every single day, gluing them perfectly upright inside a golden wax hexagon.

So good seeing these little faces again! Meet one of the Spring/Summer gardens Most Valuable Pollinator! The leaf cutter bee! While honeybees get all the credit, leafcutters are actually far better at pollinating summer crops. Honeybees pack their pollen away into neat little baskets on their legs, but leafcutters carry it loose and dry right on their fuzzy bellies.Because it’s loose, that pollen dusts off onto every single flower they touch—making them up to 20 times more effective at pollination. They thrive in the summer heat, they’re incredibly gentle, and they leave behind those neat, artistic little cuts on your leaves.Keep an eye out for these hard workers in your garden today!!

Bees are the ultimate survivalists. They practice ‘brood cannibalism’—consuming their own eggs and larvae to recycle essential proteins. It might sound intense, but it’s just one of the many natural ways they regulate the hive and keep the colony thriving.

Kindness doesn’t have a size limit. Today, this little worker needed a helping hand, reminding me that no act of good is ever too small. When we slow down, nature gives us endless chances to step up.By saving just one pollinator- you protect a vital piece of our ecosystem. We can all be pollinator warriors right in our own backyards.Next time you see a tired bee, think twice before walking past. Mix a little sugar water, offer a helping hand, and do your part for nature.

It’s school holiday time, which is the perfect excuse for some outdoor fun! With spring finally here, the girls in pink are so excited to be hosting a session where we’ll be building "Air Bee n Bee" homes. It’s such a beautiful way to help our local solitary pollinators—like the blue banded, leaf cutter, and little resin bees—find a safe place to nest.

I love seeing kids get hands-on with nature, and this is a great chance to learn about these amazing little insects while creating something that really makes a difference in our gardens. I’d love for you to come down, get your hands dirty, and help us look after our local bee population!
