🌞 What a wonderland of a day at the Cairns City Library Mad Hatters Tea Party! The sun was shining, a cool breeze danced through the trees, and the vibe was absolutely magical. 🍭🎩✨

I had the sweetest time spinning fairy floss from my cotton candy cart while families enjoyed lawn games, refreshing drinks, and creative arts and crafts. 🎨🍹 The incredibly talented Abi Muir brought the smiles with her beautiful renditions of childhood classics 🎶, and the local kids stole the show with their adorable play! 💕

Big thanks to everyone who stopped by for a sugar fix and some fun — what a joyful celebration of community and imagination! 💖🫖

I thought it was well overdue to introduce myself to those who are new to my small business!
My name is Jemma, and I’m the owner of Petite Fairy Floss 🍭✨

Here’s a little about me!

1. What inspired you to start a cotton candy business?

I absolutely love working with children, young people, and families 💕 This business gives me the opportunity to be part of fun, meaningful events that create lasting memories for people in the community. It’s light-hearted, joy-filled work — I get to chat with all kinds of lovely people and take part in amazing local events. There’s nothing better than being surrounded by smiles and sweetness (literally and figuratively!). 🌸

2. What’s your favorite memory involving cotton candy?

Definitely eating fairy floss at the local show as a kid! 🎡 I grew up on the Tablelands, and the show holiday was always one of my favourite times of the year. The weather was cold, you would get sticky fairy floss fingers, show bags, fresh cream waffles, the sounds of the side show alley were loud, and the joyful screams of thrill-seekers were memorable — it’s all so nostalgic for me. I remember coming home, dumping our show bags on the living room floor with my cousins, and trading goodies with my siblings. Pure childhood magic ✨

3. If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

A kid at heart 💖 (Yes, it’s four words... but it truly sums me up!)

4. What do you love most about running your own business?

I love the flexibility it gives me 🙌 I’m currently studying to become a primary school teacher (graduating next year!) and I have 2 kids who are busy with school and sport. My husband works FIFO, so I juggle a lot on my own. Running this business means I can take on work when it suits my family and study commitments. It’s a creative outlet, and it fits beautifully into my life 💗

5. What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I used to fire twirl! 🔥💃 (Yes, really!) It was so much fun and such a cool skill to have — definitely a past hobby that surprises people!

6. How did you come up with the name for your cotton candy business?

I named it after the size of my adorable fairy floss cart and the lovely little people I often serve — “Petite,” meaning small or delicate, just like my cart and many of my customers 🧚‍♀️ It felt sweet, simple, and perfectly fitting. 🩷
