This would have been the biggest decision I have ever made. Even though I say I'm retired, who knows this Mermaid will miss it way to much. Stay tuned just incase she makes a come back, even if it's as a gran-mer

Mermaid Nixie is hanging up her shells after eight years at Busselton Jetty. She's regularly appeared in the observatory window, waving to onlookers, swishing her tail and holding her breath as deep as eight metres below the surface.

Mermaid Nixie told Stan Shaw on South West Breakfast it was a hard decision to retire but is looking forward to the opportunity to swim around Australia.

"I'll be off exploring new parts of Australia itself for 12 months. It's a big swim and I've got lots of palaces to go and explore but it should be a great adventure."

Now it's time for a mer-person to take her place but Mermaid Nixie says being ocean royalty isn't as easy as it looks.

"I personally think you need to be free dive trained, you need to have your confidence in the water. You also need to be a performer."

"It's not about how long you can hold your breath because at the same time you're doing bubble rings and love hearts and back flips."

For over 8 magical years, Mermaid Nixie has graced the waters around Busselton Jetty, bringing dreams to life and spreading joy to countless visitors. Whether it was her enchanting tales or simply the sparkle she brought to Geographe Bay, Nixie created memories that will be treasured forever.

As she swims on to her next big adventure, we want to thank her for being an unforgettable part of our Busselton Jetty family. 💙

Mermaid Nixie, you will always have a home here at the Jetty. We wish you waves of success in all that lies ahead and hope to see you back here again someday, diving into our "Sea of Discovery."
