The beginnings of Marly...

It all began with Bruce. Dad was turning 60, and I had no spare money! I hadn't painted anything substantial since high school...so a $15 trip to the art store resulted in my first art gift project...being a HUGE Springsteen fan, the subject choice was easy...then Mum turned 60 too, and I thought, well I can't play favourite parent here...must share the art love... I de

cided after so long out of the game I didn't entirely suck after all and have decided to give this 'art' thing a go for fun......then ever so slowly I've been asked to do a variety of different projects from photography to graphic design and the Marly brand has evolved into a one-stop creative shop for all!

ONE WO(MAN) BAND

When you have a knee operation and you’re restricted to the couch for several days on end, with a broken TV, temperamental internet and a whole bunch of time, you get to thinking.

I like my life right? Of course I do, it’s mine and I made it this way yes? But do I want more? Absolutely, every day! Will there be a point when I’m 100% satisfied? With my personality...most likely not. But that’s half the fun. It’s the journey that brings happiness, not the destination.

The biggest question on my mind the most often is where will Marly go? Will she grow? Can she expand outside her inner circle of friends and reach new people, new lives, new stories? I flippin’ hope so!

But it’s hard - when you’re a ‘one man band’ you’re in charge of ideas, marketing, design, production, media, sales...you bounce ideas off other people sure, but they aren’t as vested in your own business as you are. How could they be? They got their own thangs going on. However, it IS their positive feedback that DOES keep you going on. And every little project, job, painting continues to gives hope and proves you have to be onto something good here right?
