Thanks to Karen Benjamin, a Monday member, Ipswich Sixtybetter were able to recycle donated sewing encyclopaedias, magazines and patterns to Sewing Lair. Karen is also a member of a Southside Upcycling Sewing group who meet at the Beenleigh Sewing Lair.
Picture shows one of her entries in the Organisation For A Sustainable Shire upcycling challenge in which we both participated.

New Refashion Ipswich textile upcycling, making and mending group is up and running. Our meetings are held Mondays, 9:30 to 12noon at Riverview Community Centre in conjunction with Ipswich Sixty And Better Program Inc. Public holidays excepted. Sunday 24th May, 10am to1pm, Ipswich library, together with Sewical Connections. Further dates TBA.

So, plastic resin beads have doubled in price. That will escalate the price of everyday items like milk bottles, yoghurt containers etc. Recycling options have always/ will always be marginal because of collection costs/ reprocessing costs/power and water costs and hence our own Waste Authority constantly placing the emphasis on AVOIDANCE of waste. For too long plastic has been the foundation of the convenience era. This oil crisis will have all levels of people and organisations seriously rethinking but sadly unless there is a dollar to be made it wont be done.
Individuals do have the power to change things.
THINK BEFORE YOU BUY. IS THERE ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE PLASTIC?
AVOID WASTE.
