Agios Nikolaos — Kampana Islet, Paros 🇬🇷
Sitting alone on the tiny rocky islet of Kampana, between Paros and Antiparos, this little whitewashed chapel dedicated to Agios Nikolaos — Saint Nicholas, patron saint of sailors — immediately caught my attention during a boat trip from Pounda.
Most of these photographs were taken from the boat as we passed the islet, with the changing viewpoint giving me several different compositions of the chapel against the rather dramatic Cycladic sky.
But I wanted one photograph I couldn't get from the boat.
So I put my phone in a plastic bag, swam across to Kampana, climbed ashore and walked up to the chapel. The final face-on black-and-white image was made from the islet itself — perhaps a slightly excessive amount of effort for a phone photograph, but definitely one I wasn't going to get any other way!
There's something I love about this tiny chapel standing by itself amongst the rocks, surrounded by the Aegean. Even the seabird perched on the cross seemed perfectly placed.
