It’s been quite the week so far filled with a lot of stress. So I’m leaning into the calm in my work to really simmer down.
Alone is the perfect piece for bringing the calm.

Skyfall was one of my favourite paintings from my first solo show Raw.
It was so lovely to visit it again in this beautiful home. Such a beautiful moment of calm in a very busy home.

It’s been on my list for a few years so when the opportunity arose I took it. I’ve never experienced anything like it, and learnt so many incredible things. I can’t wait to get back into the studio and integrate some of it into my own practice.

The most unexpected thing, was the group of incredible women I met. How lucky to have such a warm and generous group to really push ourselves out of our comfort zone. If you’ve been on the fence about any of Skyes classes just do it. You won’t regret it, she’s fabulous.

Painting is my happy place. And sometimes it’s important to play and just paint for the sake of it. Slow day in the studio. Just being with the paint and creating colours to start layering some colour swatches for a new body of work.

Dusk

Generations of the White family have enjoyed the magnificent views over the Lockyer valley. Cup of tea in hand, sharing biscuits and stories whilst we soak up the vista and precious family time.
The use of raw canvas and acrylics forces the painting process to slow down, much like our visits to the farm. When life feels chaotic I retreat to my studio, just as our family retreats to the farm. It is both a process and a place where we are forced to slow down and exhale.

I am a firm believer that there are no mistakes. Things might not turn out how you think, but you’re sure to learn something along the way.

Creativity IS play. I find the best work and most interesting studio days happen when I let go of perfection and just roll with it.

This painting never felt finished to me. So I’ve gone back for another look and decided to add that magenta I can’t seem to keep away from. It can be a bit of a slow process adding layers this way because each layer has to dry completely before adding another. But the patience is worth it. There’s not many things in life we need to wait for these days, so using a medium that forces me to wait, also forces me to slow down.
