There’s nothing better than watching an art process unfold, so I thought I’d share the making of ‘Mona Pur Lisa’ in all her feline glory. ✨

Created with creamy Neocolor pastels and Luminance pencils on smooth 300gsm hot-pressed Fabriano paper; a combination I never tire of.

Every artwork in my vending machine started as a portfolio piece, created to stretch my skills and support my journey as a children’s picture book illustrator. Piccolo Prints has given these illustrations a chance to live beyond the sketchbook and find new homes.

✨ Vending Stories ✨

I met this wonderfully stylish lady at the Brookfield Show. She was a steward in the Quilt and Needlecraft Pavilion, and her beautifully patterned dress felt perfectly in tune with the spirit of Piccolo Prints. 💚

She spun a gorgeous Magpie print and was absolutely beaming. Her daughter lives in the US, and they love sending each other quirky gifts through the post. What a beautiful little reminder of home, a tiny piece of Australia. 🦘

It’s amazing to think that this small piece of art will soon be travelling across the world, carrying a little joy with it. 🥹

✨ My top five essential items as a creative ✨

Every day looks a little different. Some days I’m wearing my graphic designer hat, other days I’m illustrating children’s picture books. No matter the project, I still pinch myself that I get to create both professionally and personally. Challenging, but incredibly rewarding. 🙌🏼

1 👉🏼 Manifestation: I have a very special set of flutes that only come out when I sign a new kidlit contract. ✨

2 👉🏼 Inspiration box: A little treasure trove filled with letters and notes from my creative community and clients. On especially challenging days, I love revisiting these moments and remembering how far I’ve come.

(And yes, that’s a shoe box. I treat myself to a new piece whenever I hit a creative milestone 😉)

3 👉🏼 Big-ass calendar: I’m a list girlie through and through. Seeing my whole year mapped out in bite-sized rectangles does wonders for my busy brain. It lives alongside my daily planner and digital diary. 🤓

4 👉🏼 Cheap-as-chips tripod: Honestly brilliant. Picked up from my local Dollar Stretcher, this little adjustable tripod gets tossed into every bag. No need to spend big here, save that money for art supplies.

5 👉🏼 Focus cup: My favourite mug, usually filled with english breakfast or peppermint tea, or with the occasional chai or hot chocolate. Found at an art market at and made by the talented .studio 💕

There are plenty of other items too, but we can chat about those another time. 🙃

You’ve fallen in love with the concept, you’ve seen the art… but you haven’t quite met me, the maker behind Piccolo Prints ✨

Hello! I’m Kristen Willis (aka ), a Brissy based graphic designer, picture book illustrator, kidlit advocate, lover of family stories, culture and chronic creative thinker.

My husband says I’ve always got a “bee in my bonnet” and he’s right 😂 If I’m not pollinating ideas, I’m spawning them. If someone needs motivation, I juice them up with creative elixir.

Over the years, my picture book journey has filled boxes with portfolio pieces, shaped by daily life, memory and storytelling.

Piccolo Prints was born to give these works a second life, turning them into surprise lucky dip moments.

There’s something special about watching someone crank the handle and discover a surprise artwork made just for them. 👌🏼💕
