‘Ngā Āwai Rangatira - Noble Currents of Indigenous Enterprise’ was the perspective delivered by our Directors at the 2026 Indigenous Empowerment Summit - Brisbane.

The key message shared was that
“Cultural value is economic value.”

This extended into recognising the Maiwar (Brisbane River) as a historic economic trade highway, connecting people, communities, and opportunity.

The cultural connections, mana, rights, and responsibilities that First Nations peoples hold to Meanjin waterways and country were highlighted as being of immense significance. These insights resonated deeply with our own kōrero tuku iho and the enduring responsibilities we carry to our tūpuna, our whenua, and the places that shape our identity.
Kātahi rā te kaupapa ko tērā! ❤️💛🖤
Ka nui te mihi ki ngā kaiwhakahaere o te kaupapa, otirā ki te iwi taketake nō te whenua o Meanjin.

‘Mā te whatu kākahu, ka kitea te aroha - Each thread woven reveals the essence of the heart’

ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures hosted an interactive workshop facilitated by Associate Professor (Te Rarawa, Ngā Puhi) titled: “Our kids don’t read articles” Story and creative practice in research with and for community.

This workshop called upon us to consider the critical role of how we bring whānau (family), Rangatahi (young people), hapori (community) and those outside of academia into research.

Nō māua te whiwhi e te māreikura, me te mihi anō ki te nui o ngā kaupapa rangahau i mahia nei e koe.. Mīharo! 🙌🏾🪶

🪶Te Manu Tōrere - The infatuated being🪶
(Early Learning Program) 🌱

Our Director Gaylene Ahipene sharing ‘poi’ as a means of self-expression and enjoyment. The poi dates back to our creation narratives and reminds us of who we are, and how important it is to connect with your surroundings through knowing yourself. Poi is a connection to the past in the present.

‘Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu - Enable and equipped them and they will thrive’ 🪶🌿
