An exciting day for the Socceroos and all their supporters with their 2-0 victory in the FIFA World Cup in Vancouver. Also visited a few buildings that had been constructed since the last time I was in Vancouver including residential apartments Alberni designed by Kengo Kuma and Vancouver House designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, Deloitte Summit designed by OSO and also Vancouver Public Library designed by Moshe Safdie that I had not visited before.

A nice day trip to Arles where everything is within walking distance including Luma designed by Frank Gehry, Lee Ufan Arles which is Korean artist Lee Ufan’s own private museum where he has a collaborative work with Japanese architect Tadao Ando, Fondation Van Gogh, L’espace Van Gogh and various places featured in Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings.

Staying at Hotel Le Corbusier in Marseille which takes up part of the Le Corbusier UNESCO World Heritage site, Unité d’habitation ( Cité Radieuse ). Zaha Hadid and Jean Nouvel also designed high rise office buildings next to each other in Marseille while Kengo Kuma designed the contemporary art museum, Frac Sud - Cité de l’art contemporain and Norman Foster is prominent at Vieux-Port on the waterfront with L’Ombrière de Norman Foster.

Trip to Bern, Switzerland to visit Renzo Piano’s Zentrum Paul Klee and Daniel Libeskind’s Westside Shopping Centre and spent one more day in Basel to visit Herzog and de Meuron’s Museum der Kulturen, where Australian First Nations artists are featured, as well as their Exhibition Centre and Roche Building.

Visiting Paris for the French Open tennis at Roland Garros but also went to three places I have not been before - the remodeling of the interior of two buildings, Bource de Commerce - Pinault Collection, designed by Tadao Ando and the new relocated Fondation Cartier designed by Jean Nouvel as well as the Cinematheque designed by Frank Gehry.

Vitra Campus at Weil am Rhein in Germany is a place where all architecture, art and design enthusiasts have to visit. It is only a 10 minutes ride by bus with one transfer from Fondation Beyeler, designed by Renzo Piano, in Basel. Vitra Campus includes Frank Gehry’s Vitra Design Museum, Zaha Hadid’s Fire Station, Herzog & de Meuron’s Vitra Haus and Schaudepot and buildings by Tadao Ando, Renzo Piano, Nicholas Grimshaw and others.
Kunstmuseum, Basel’s public art museum, has three buildings with the original one exhibiting collection of the benefactors, second building currently exhibiting works of American abstract expressionist, Helen Frankenthaler and the third building exhibiting the works of contemporary Chinese artist Cao Fei.
Fondation Beyeler designed by Renzo Piano and Museum Tinguely designed by Mario Botta are also not to be missed while in Basel.

My first trip to Zurich in Switzerland and there is plenty of interesting art and architecture to keep me fully occupied including Kunsthaus Zurich and its 2020 extension designed by David Chipperfield, Pavilion Le Corbusier and the Stadelhofen Railway Station and University of Zurich Law Faculty Library designed by Santiago Calatrava.

Pleasantly surprised to find a major exhibition of Anish Kapoor at Palazzo Manfrin in Venice. The exhibition includes over 100 architectural models of his public art projects from his own studio collection. Anish Kapoor bought the 16th-century Palazzo Manfrin to serve as a permanent foundation, studio, and museum for his work.

A day at Arsenale for the Venice Biennale (61st La Biennale di Venezia), In Minor Keys, curated by Koyo Kouoh, where Australian artist Khaled Sabsabi working with Michael Dagostino, curator, also has his work, khalil, being presented and it is the first work you will see after you enter the exhibition. I ran into Nicol Ellis, Australian artist, and the odds of that happening is not high as I didn’t know she would be in Venice and it is two weeks after the Vernissage when you are more likely to come across someone you know.

A 3 days stopover visiting Hanoi for the first time on the way to Venice. Visited the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, Train Street and Museum of Literature. Was hoping to catch up with George and Ilza Burchett, artists, but they had moved to central Vietnam.
