The fourth and final bug! All of the bugs have been created with Sakura Pigma Micron Fineliner, and .

They’re all on the same page, which is one of the good things about an a4 sized sketchbook- there are pros and cons to every size sketchbook I find, but this is definitely a pro of this one, being able to group like things together on the same page without having to shrink something down to a size where there’s no way to add detail. And I’m all about the detail, for better or worse.

Just like the others it has been created with Sakura Pigma Micron Fineliner for the line work, and
And a bonus side by side comparison pic of what it looks like both with and without a drop shadow. (Because I forgot to put it in, and then took pics, and was like ‘why doesn’t it look right?’ But then remembered and took pics after adding it)

This year, Rag’n’Bone Art is participating in the Incognito Art Show.
What’s that? I hadn’t heard of it until this year either, don’t worry! It is an art show where artists who register are sent three postcards on which to create whatever type of art they like. They then register the artworks, and send them back, where they go on display for purchase. The buyer has no idea who the artist is, until after they purchase the artwork, and all proceeds go towards supporting artists living with disability.
I have had an absolute blast doing my three artworks (which I am obviously unable to show until they are purchased) and they are sealed up in their reply paid envelope and being posted back today.
While I did take pictures of the artworks, I have not digitally scanned them, as I intend them to remain original, with no prints available. I am considering recreating one on a larger scale however!

You should totally check them out on Instagram, and consider signing up and registering to be a participating artist next year. Go on, you know you wanna. Look, you even get a rad sticker!! Great for your sketchbook!

A review that has been a long time coming, of Golden brand 'So Flat' paint.
So, a while ago now, I was given the opportunity by Bonnie of The Alchemist Artists' Supply Store in Kyneton, to try the Golden So Flat paint - I had been hunting for Holbein AcrylaGouache, and Bonnie was kind enough to educate me on the differences and similarities between the AcrylaGouache and the So Flat, in that they were much the same where it counted. While I could have gone online and made purchases, I try very hard to support local and local-ish stores first and foremost, to keep my money as local as possible and support small business, but also because art supplies especially are such a sensory and tactile experience, I find I have less disappointment if I make a purchase in person. I do not have a lot of disposable income to spend on art supplies, so getting it right is important.

(As a side note, before I continue, if you are able to pop in to the bricks and mortar The Alchemist Artists Supply Store, it is most definitely worth a visit. The store itself is a delightful place to be, a place of visual and sensory peace as well as inspiration. The fit out is beautiful and Bonnie herself is incredibly welcoming. Additionally, if you are day tripping I recommend stopping in at Little Swallow Cafe in Piper Street too - the best hollandaise sauce I have had in my LIFE).

To the point however, the So Flat paints are brilliant. I have the six pack which includes Titanium White, Black, Permanent Green, Napthol Red Light, Cadmium Primrose and Ultramarine Blue, along with an additional bottle of Red Oxide. I have swatched each colour, and given them a spin on cheap printer paper, 300gsm watercolour paper, mid-range 200gsm paper, canvas, and even ceramic, and they've performed spectacularly well each time.
They are incredibly pigment rich while also being fluid and smooth enough to lay down easily over a larger area, as well as versatile enough to do detailed line work. They mix with each other, and with other acrylic paints (some of ahhhh... dubious quality) easily and quickly. They also dry quickly, which depending on how you're using them can be either a blessing or a curse. However, adding some sort of retarding medium will likely help as this is the case with most acrylic paints. Of the colours I have my favourite is the Red Oxide, but that is just personal reference. I certainly LOVE the Cadmium Primrose however, especially for mixing, as it has an almost flourescent tone to it, that when mixed with other colours makes for a brilliant tone and value shift for extra vivid highlights.

I have also since had the opportunity to try the Holbein AcrylaGouache I had been looking for and can quite easily say that the Golden So Flat beats it in every way possible, opacity, pigment, fluidity and just sheer joy of use, which for me, is where it really is at. These paints make me want to paint more, simply to enjoy using them, and that's a great product as far as I am concerned.

Thanks again to Bonnie for the opportunity to try them! I appreciate it :)

Somewhat unbelievably (totally believably), I neglected to set up the page of Rag 'N' Bone back before I got sick. Never mind, I'm here now!
I'm also over on YouTube, and Instagram, as well as TikTok under the same name.
I'll be sharing more here, including videos, reels and posts going forward, but in the meantime if you would like to listen to the me of a year and a bit ago ramble about what I do and why, along with a review of 365 Days of Creativity, a book by Lorna Scobie, you can do so here:

The first video for Rag'n'Bone Art, with an introduction of sorts, heaps of 'ummmmm', the purpose behind the channel, a bit of an art ethos, and a review of ...
