It’s going to be an iconic episode of Friday Fidelity this week 🎶

Tune in to 93.7 FM at 11am AEDT tomorrow for some local updates, with news about things to do in the Bega Valley from a youth perspective!

Then we’re going to take a dive into the depths of Cher: The Memoir, which Michael has just finished reading. This book is an amazingly detailed and comprehensive retelling of the formative years of one of the greatest careers in show business, starting from Cherilyn Sarkisian’s family background and rollercoaster of an early life, being thrust into stardom, having the star power fade and then reigniting it all over again through the lens of Sonny & Cher on television. We’ll discuss how the book commentates on the personal lives, professional development and the social fabric of the time, going through culture changes in the 1960s and ‘70s, from fashion trends to presidential campaigns. And of course, we'll hear some of the iconic music that made Cher a household name over 50 years ago.

Tomorrow on Friday Fidelity we’re focusing on a pop masterpiece 🎶

We’re going to take a look at great events happening this week in the Bega Valley, including the 150th Bega Show and the Cobargo Folk Festival! As well as that, we’ll recount the Mental Health First Aid course that Michael undertook this week, and highlight how useful it could be for any person to do.

After the local section, we’re going to travel quicker than a Ray of Light, celebrating 28 years since the release of what it widely considered to be Madonna’s greatest album. With comparisons to Saint Etienne, Massive Attack and Björk, it’s a smorgasbord of electronica, trip hop and techno, with a healthy dollop of rock, dance and world music influences. We’ll listen to iconic singles as well as deep cuts, and discuss how the album is still influencing artists of all kinds.

Celebrating one of the most significant artists of our generation on tomorrow’s Friday Fidelity 💿

Join us at 11am AEDT Friday for info about what’s going on around the Bega Valley from a youth perspective, with some great ways to get involved!

As well as that, this Friday is the birthday of Rihanna, the second best-selling female artist of all time and one of the most influential music artists of this century. We’ll hear some of the iconic tracks that made her a household name 20 years ago, and how she built up her legacy as an all-time great singer and also as an outstanding philanthropist and activist, making major impacts in healthcare and education in multiple countries.

Then, we will relive and discuss the spectacular Super Bowl LX Halftime Show from this Monday, with the performance by Bad Bunny being widely considered one of the greatest halftime shows ever, and renewing interest in Latin culture around the world.

And afterwards, let’s celebrate an anniversary as we come up to 48 years since the release of the iconic record The Kick Inside, the debut album from Kate Bush. This self-written album is still regarded as one of the greatest debut albums, with a level of artistry that would be expected of an industry veteran.

It’s time for some iconic dance music on tomorrow’s Friday Fidelity 💿

Join us at 11am AEDT Friday for info about what’s going on around the Bega Valley from a youth perspective, including a report back from the fantastic Wonderwalls event which took place at the Bega skate park for three days this week, thanks to Funhouse Studio! The event included workshops, demonstrations and activities, alongside live music by budding local band Lilith 🎶

After the local information, stay tuned to 93.7 for a retrospective of one of the most iconic dance albums of all time, Homework, as it turns 29 years old this month. We’ll dive into the history of how Daft Punk made forged their path in French house, and how this album introduced listeners to a new sound which has become largely timeless.

We’re halfway through the wonderful Wonderwalls event in Bega this week!

It’s been a time of art, creativity and expression at Bega Sk8 Park, with the instructor Simon of Wonderwalls teaching techniques and helping young people bring out their ideas and talents. As well as the skate park, the amazing Belgian artists from Wonderwall are making great progress with their mural on the side of the Officeworks building, formerly the headquartes of Funhouse Studio who have organised this event for the town!

We thought Wednesday would be less popular due to being hotter but it’s been an even bigger turnout! It just goes to show that people will support these brilliant events and workshops happening right here in Bega 📍🎨

Tomorrow on Friday Fidelity 📻

We’re going to look at more great events, exhibitions and workshops coming up around the Bega Valley from a youth perspective, as well as recounting the comedy show of the iconic Akmal Saleh in Merimbula last weekend! After the local updates, we have more great music 🎶

Over the last ten years there has been a significant rise in the popularity of Japanese music from the ‘70s and ‘80s, as J-Pop and City Pop become well known throughout the world. Junko Yagami is one of the most notable artists of these genres, finding a new legion of fans thanks to the internet, solidifying her iconicity. Famous for her outstanding vocals and for often playing piano in her performances, in 2022 she became the first Japanese artist inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame.

As Junko celebrates her birthday this month, we’ll explore the beginnings of her career, winning the Outstanding Song Award at the Yamaha Popular song contest as a teenager, to becoming a household name in Japan and now finding a new wave of appreciation that is much more global than ever before, thanks to songs like "Mizuiro no Ame" (Light Blue Rain), "Purple Town" and "Tasogare no Bay City" (Bay City in Twilight).
