A little Kalbarri challenge update šæ
Earlier this year, I set myself a personal challenge: 10 mini Kalbarri paintings in 10 weeks.
Iām very pleased to say Iām still on track!
Hereās a little peek at painting number 8 taking shape in the studio. Just two more paintings to complete in three weeks... I think Iām going to make it!
This little work takes me back to Rainbow Valley, one of the places that completely changed the way I saw Kalbarri on my recent trip.
Here, the landscape feels like a story written in stone. Bands of warm reds, pinks, ochres and creams sweep through the exposed coastal rock, with layers, ripples and weathered surfaces revealing a landscape shaped over an extraordinary span of time.
I loved following those lines through the rock, noticing where the layers curved, fractured and disappeared, then emerged again further along the trail. Against the coastal vegetation, blue ocean and huge sky, the colours felt almost exaggerated, yet they were all there in the landscape.
These 10 small paintings have become more than a challenge to keep me painting each week. They are helping me explore the colours, geology and memories I brought home from Kalbarri, and are becoming little studies for where this body of work might travel next.
8 down. 2 to go. ššŖØ
