Textile Artists that inspire me - Fleur Wood

Fleur is from New Zealand and I love her colourful, textured and untamed style in contemporary embroidery.

Her work and workshops are all about surrendering to your intuition and the joy of the process.

Her book, ‘Untamed Thread’ has a cover that feels like fabric. The book is both soulful and captivating.

It is wonderful how we all have our own style of working but can be inspire by the creativity and techniques of others.

I dream of doing one of her workshops someday. She comes to different parts of Australia at times and also does an online workshop.

She also does an online workshop online at times through Take Two Art Courses. Here is a video about her Joyful Embroidery course.

Day 2, 3 and 4/100 Stitch Meditation
Nature seems to be my motivation at the moment.

Over the weekend I did another stitch meditation piece. I didn’t stick to the rules for the challenge which is to do a seperate small piece each day for half an hour.

I’m just going at my own pace and will do them when I feel like doing them. Also I’m going to let myself go where the piece takes me which may mean to work at it for longer and in more detail. I just cant help myself.

I’m still just using simple stitches, on a small piece and doing it as a meditation though.

Stitching meditation 1/100
✨Sometimes you don’t know what you really need till you do it✨

I knew I bought this basket in Vanuatu for a reason. It will be the holder of my stitch meditations for now.

If you want to do the 100 days of Stitch Meditation you can join the Facebook group and find out about it there. Liz Kettle is running it. You can follow along with everyone’s journey in the group.

It’s not about completing a project or having a pretty piece at the end. Its about spending some meditative time stitching and not caring about what your stitches look like.

Also you can do it everyday or just when you want to.

I created this mini art quilt in 2010. It was a way to escape the routine and find some expression for my Sagittarius heart.

I was inspired by the exotic and goddess energy. It made me go back to the feelings of when I did Belly dance classes back in my 20’s and feeling free, sensuous and vibrant.

My exploration of beadwork in this piece allowed me to really connect with the beauty of belly dancing costumes.

Pop your sound on and be transported somewhere beautifully exotic.
