🎂 A very happy 80th birthday to Sir John Rutter! It has been a profound joy for us to explore his musical world all year, and to experience the full breadth of his masterful writing for choirs. From his uplifting Requiem to his cheeky Shakespeare settings, all the way to the gladness and spirituality of his Christmas carols, we’re having ourselves a wonderful Rutterpalooza. Happy birthday! 🎉

We’re looking forward to singing some beautiful music in St Peter's Cathedral, Adelaide next weekend. Music, liturgy, and contemplation are woven together in the fabric of evensong, allowing the listener to appreciate a rich heritage of ancient tradition, stunning architecture, and glorious singing. We’re delighted to return to St Peter's Cathedral, Adelaide soon as a guest choir, for evensong on Sunday 28 September at 6pm. We’ll be singing George Dyson’s 1907 setting of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis, which is popularly known as the “Star Wars service” in choral circles. With its descending triplet figures and leaping fifths echoing John Williams’ famous main theme, as well as its sci-fi-flavoured harmonic shifts, it’s easy to hear the connection!

But don’t just take our word for it – here’s a hilarious video our friends at Music at Pilgrim put together last year before their May the Fourth evensong. Listen out for those fifths and tell us they don’t transport you to a galaxy far, far away!

We hope you can join us for the majesty of this music in the Cathedral in a fortnight 💫

🎸 Alto Ali Hansen performs this Sunday as part of the Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra in Consonance. Revel in the extraordinary energy of 50 guitars on the stage of Elder Hall!

🎂 Alto Riana Chakravarti also performs this Sunday as one of the soloists for Kapelle Singers Inc.’s 30th Anniversary Concert, singing in Vivaldi’s Gloria!

🌈 Soprano Emma Chesterman is the choir teacher at Lockleys North Primary School, and has a busy week ahead at the Festival of Music (Primary Schools Music Festival)!

🎻 Ali, Riana, alto Genevieve Spalding, tenor Lou McGee, bass Edward Vaught and soprano Aletheia Burney join members of Adelaide Chamber Singers to sing Mozart’s Requiem with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as part of their concert, ‘Sacred & Profane: Remember’.

🎭 Bass Greg John is the artistic director of Big Sing McLaren Vale, which will soon bring the power of massed voices to some of the most beloved, enduring opera choruses of all time.

💥 Soprano Amelia Holds is the music director of the Choir of Christ Church North Adelaide, which invites you to Bangers & Mass, a joyful and reflective concert featuring the choir’s favourite pieces (affectionately referred to as “bangers”)!
