A reflection on National Reconciliation Week, for you all, from us.

Genuine reconciliation asks for more than symbolic gestures. Reconciliation is not measured by words, branding, or public statements, but by how you respond when truth is uncomfortable, accountability is required, and respect becomes inconvenient.

As we all head to the polls today, please lead with kindness and respect. We shared our thoughts on the referendum for recently:

For more than 230 years, Aboriginal people across this beautiful continent have been advocating to uphold our sovereign right to self-determination. We want to lead our lives, our destinies and our communities. As the first custodians, Aboriginal people have the right to live in a society that not only acknowledges our culture and inherent connection to land, but values, uplifts and privileges our collective strengths and our voices.

The upcoming referendum on 14 October 2023, is a historic opportunity for the Australian people to reckon with our history and ensure that Aboriginal people, for generations to come, will be included in decision-making for matters that impact our lives, our communities, and importantly, our children; they are our hope for the future.

The from the Heart is an invitation to the Australian people, to walk with us for a better future. History is calling and Ngangki Warra support a constitutionally enshrined First Nations Voice.

Niina Marni!

Reconciliation week starts today and runs until the 3rd of June. It’s a chance for us to come together on Kaurna Yerta, listen, learn and walk towards the healing Reconciliation brings.

Speaking of walks, be a ‘Voice for Generations’ and come along to Blackwood Reconciliation Walk 2023 tomorrow!

Meet us at the Blackwood roundabout, by the Soldiers’ Memorial at 1130 for a 30-minute walk down the footpath of Shepherds Hill Road to the Colebrook Reconciliation Park where Ngangki Warra will provide a Welcome to Country followed by Coromandel Valley Junior Choir with their beautiful “We are Australian”. Many local schools are also ready to sing along with the “Colebrook Song” and “ Stompin’ the Ground”

Immerse yourself in the age appropriate truth-telling Colebrook Reconciliation Park offers, enjoy some food from our fundraising sausage sizzle (gold coin donation) funded by the Aboriginal Lands Trust and drinks donated by Saint Peter’s Girls’ School. Hot drinks will be available to purchase from Mrs Sippy Mobile Coffee and Bar and delicious food from Meez On Plus.

will have tshirts and other merch available to purchase.

Rain is expected so rug up and we are grateful to City of Mitcham for a grant to allow marquee hire from SA Stretch tents this year.

The Justice Policy Partnership (JPP) is gathering on Kaurna Yarta today to discuss important strategies for equitable access to justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The JPP is committed to reducing the rates of incarceration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A key step towards this is to raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility. Currently, children as young as 10 years old can be arrested and incarcerated. Children do not belong in prison. Link to sign the national petition is in our bio.
