"I have fun memories of singing the bass solos in this work many years ago in St Peter's Cathedral Choir! ‘O where shall wisdom be found’ is a classic English style anthem composed by one of the finest and unassuming composers of the late Baroque era, William Boyce. The fresh and clever writing allows the voices to flourish on their own, in trios and in full homophonic textures."

"Henry Purcell is one of my favourite composers. His luscious harmonies always spark joy and excitement in me. You can hear echoes of his harmonic language through so many of the English composers that follow him."

"Thomas Weelkes’ secular madrigal ‘Hark, all ye lovely saints above’ (c. 1600) represents the pinnacle of English Renaissance polyphony. This mythological work tells the story of reconciliation between Diana (goddess of chastity) and Cupid (god of love), celebrating the triumph of harmonious love over romantic torment. The text’s simplicity allows the listener to focus on the central theme of love and joy, with a great sense of merriment embodied in its “Fa la la” refrain. It’s a lot of fun to sing and we hope you experience some of the joy that this piece has brought to audiences for over 400 years."

"What could be more quintessentially English, than a choral anthem composed by William Walton, for the London society wedding of a bride named Lady Mabel Fox-Strangeways! 'Set me as a Seal' has some delightful call and response components, with Walton adding musical layers to the already metaphorically deep text. Love is sealed in the heart (internally), on the arm (publicly), with love ultimately being as strong as death."

"What better way to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Orlando Gibbons than his most famous work about dying: ‘The Silver Swan’. Its heart wrenching poem depicts the ancient myth that the dying swan sings a final beautiful song. Gibbons’ glorious, and all too brief, choral work is written in a sombre and beautiful madrigalian style"

"I have been lucky enough to sing the soprano solo in Charles Villiers Stanford’s “The Blue Bird” several times in my life... embodying a bird in flight over a lake with a stunning soaring melody, and single notes as the bird hovers. The music and text are a match made in heaven, like the imagery of the blue bird and the blue lake..."
