🪐 Welcome back to the Saturn Dev Log! After a long break, Saturn development is back in full swing — and we're getting straight to work 💪

In this episode, I restructure Asteroid3 🌑 to properly inherit from a base asteroid prefab, keeping the asset pipeline clean and consistent across all asteroid variants. Along the way, a few bugs get squashed too 🐛✅

Then things get frustrating 😅: Unity Version Control on my Mint installation refuses to cooperate — clicking "Login or Sign Up" does absolutely nothing. We dig into what's going on and discuss potential fixes 🔧

A productive session mixed with some real indie dev struggles — exactly what this devlog is about 🎮

We're so back, people!

Long time no see... I had a rough time and I still do. I had to focus on other things and couldn't find the time to work on personal projects. Maybe, when things go better, I'll tell you my painful story. Until then, we stream now!

Hey everyone!

Exciting news for those of you interested in a deeper dive into the game's development: I'm currently working on putting together Dev Logs! My plan is to start posting these on YouTube.

These logs will give you a closer look at the process, challenges, and triumphs behind the scenes.

To make sure you don't miss out when the first one drops (and future ones!), I highly recommend heading over to our YouTube Channel and hitting that subscribe button and the notification bell!

Given my ADHD, I know I might sometimes be a bit delayed with an announcement here when a video goes live, so subscribing and ringing that bell is truly the best way to stay updated.

Can't wait to share more of this journey with you all!

Greetings, Commanders!

Remember Jonathan's spaceship mesh we talked about? Well, I'm absolutely over the moon to share a massive update: the 3D model is now officially textured! 🎉

It's been quite the journey, taking a good chunk of time and effort to get all the colors, details, and materials just right. But honestly, I couldn't be happier with the result, and I really hope you can appreciate it as much as I do.

To give you a peek, I've attached a couple of fresh screenshots of the ship in all its textured glory!

What are your first impressions? Let me know! Thanks for sticking with me on this adventure!

Big news—I’ve finally completed the mesh for Jonathan’s spaceship! 🛠️ Jonathan, as you know, is the main character and captain, so this is a huge milestone. While the mesh itself is done, the model isn’t finished just yet. The next step is UV unwrapping, which is like unfolding a 3D model into a flat layout, so we can properly apply textures (the colors, details, and materials that make the ship look real). 🎨

I know I’ve been quiet for a while, and I want to apologize for that. Unemployment has been rough—it’s been almost a year now. It’s made me both busier and more demotivated at the same time. But no matter what, I refuse to let it stop me. This project is still alive, and I’m not giving up! 💪

To celebrate this milestone, I’m sharing two screenshots of the result so far. Let me know what you think! 🚀✨

Thank you for sticking with me on this journey! More updates soon, hopefully!

Greetings, Commanders! :rocket:

A few days ago, I shared a glimpse of what’s brewing in the art department—and now it’s time for an update!

I’m thrilled to share that the 3D model is shaping up beautifully! While it’s not fully complete yet, it’s definitely coming together, and I couldn’t be more excited about how it’s looking so far. 👀

P.S.: If anyone here is interested in lending a hand with texturing, feel free to message me privately—I’d love to collaborate! Your support means everything—thank you for being part of this journey! 🎉

Greetings, Commanders! :rocket:

A week ago, I teased that there would be news from the art side—and the time has come! Today, I’m thrilled to unveil a sketch of the design that will represent the human race in the game. The inspiration? A blend of steam locomotives and caravels, combining timeless elegance with mechanical grit. :steam_locomotive::sailboat:

But that’s not all—the excitement doesn’t stop at sketches! I’ve already begun working on the 3D model, and so far, it’s shaping up beautifully. I’ll share a sneak peek with a screenshot for you all to see shortly. Stay tuned!

As always, your support fuels this journey. Thank you for being part of it :hearts:

Greetings, Commanders! :rocket:

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! Progress on Saturn temporarily paused during the Christmas break, and I hit a roadblock for about a month due to a Unity UX bug in the briefing cutscene. While I did find a workaround, I ultimately decided to simplify things by leaving out camera movements during the initial briefing.

The journey wasn’t easy—dealing with ADHD paralysis added an extra layer of challenge. I knew I could shift focus to other parts of the project, but I felt stuck because of this bug. Thankfully, I’ve pushed through both hurdles, and I’m thrilled to be back in action! :tada:

You’ll hear from me soon-ish regarding something exciting in the art department. It’ll take 1–2 weeks to finalize, and I want it to be a surprise. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your patience and support—it means the galaxy to me :dizzy:

Hey Commanders! 🚀 I'm back today. I know, I have been absent. After my illness I was feeling rushed to find a job since I'm still unemployed. Well, now, what a shocking news, I'm sick again 😅

Today I created a trigger to start a dialog after the cutscene. Note: music is disabled for copyright reasons.

Moreover, I tried to move the camera from the current position to the back of the ship to transition from cutscene to gameplay seamlessly, but I can't assign virtual cameras to my CinemachineShot. It feels like a bug to be honest, and I opened a ticket for it: https://discussions.unity.com/t/blending-cutscene-camera-with-freelook-camera-in-timeline-issues-with-assigning-virtual-camera/1562271
I'm feeling a bit sad that I couldn't do more today 😦

Hey Commanders! 🚀 We’re excited to reveal the first-ever footage of Project "Saturn"—our spiritual successor to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident! Check out the videos where I walk through our early prototype, showcasing scripts, initial mechanics, UI, and interactions. It's still rough—think cubes, spheres, and a few bugs—but it’s functional and a solid foundation for the epic space strategy game we’re building! 🛸
