🎂🎶 TWO YEARS OF VGMC! 🌈✨

Two years ago today, our very first rehearsal took place — and the beginning of this fabulous adventure! 🥹

We started with just 30 members. Today, we’re 60 strong! 🎤🌈

Since then, we’ve had 4 concerts, 2 Pride Prayers, performed at the Diversity Ball, and shared 2 special events with Homophonix. 🌈🎶

We can proudly say: we’ve arrived! 🏳️‍🌈✨ VGMC is now part of Vienna’s wonderfully diverse cultural life, and we’re so happy to be singing our way through it.

Heute vor zwei Jahren fand unsere allererste Probe statt – und damit begann dieses fabelhafte Abenteuer! 🥹

Wir haben mit nur 30 Mitgliedern begonnen. Heute sind wir 60! 🎤🌈

Seitdem haben wir 4 Konzerte, 2 Pride Prayers und den Diversity Ball erlebt sowie 2 besondere Events mit Homophonix gefeiert. 🌈🎶

Wir können stolz sagen: Wir sind angekommen! 🏳️‍🌈✨ Der VGMC ist mittlerweile Teil des vielfältigen Wiener Kulturlebens – und wir freuen uns riesig, unsere Stimmen darin erklingen zu lassen.

Meet Saša (Sasha), one of the Tenor 2 voices of the Vienna Gay Men's Chorus🌈✨

Originally from Slovenia and now happily calling Austria home, Saša is a proud gay man who believes there's always light at the end of the tunnel. 💜

As a Tenor 2, you'll usually find him in the front row, partly because he loves to chat... and partly because he says the sunshine makes up for it! 😜

For Saša, the choir is much more than a hobby. It's a place where music creates friendships, laughter, and a true sense of belonging.

Lernt Saša (Sasha)kennen – eine der Tenor-2-Stimmen des Vienna Gay Men's Chorus 🌈✨

Saša stammt aus Slowenien und lebt seit vielen Jahren in Österreich. Als stolzer schwuler Mann glaubt er daran, dass es am Ende jedes Tunnels ein Licht gibt. 💜

Als Tenor 2 sitzt er meistens in der ersten Reihe – einerseits, weil er gerne plaudert 🤣, andererseits, weil dort die Sonne so schön scheint. 😜

Für Saša ist der Chor viel mehr als nur ein Hobby. Hier entstehen Freundschaften, Gemeinschaft und die Freude, gemeinsam Musik zu machen.

Meet Markus, one of the Bass 2 voices of the Vienna Gay Men's Chorus 🌈✨

Originally from Austria, Markus is a proud gay man who believes music is "a vocal statement beyond words." 💜

Outside the choir, he enjoys swimming, exploring the arts, and listening to everything from pop to opera.

Fun fact: Although music is one of his greatest passions, Markus believes that sometimes silence can be the most spectacular sound of all.

What he loves most about the Vienna Gay Men's Chorus? Different voices coming together to share one loud and proud message of community, diversity, and belonging.

Markus kommt aus Österreich und ist ein stolzer schwuler Mann. Für ihn ist Musik „eine stimmliche Aussage, die über Worte hinausgeht.“ 💜

In seiner Freizeit geht er gerne schwimmen, interessiert sich für Kunst und hört alles von Pop bis Oper.

Fun Fact: So sehr er Musik liebt, manchmal ist für Markus Stille der beeindruckendste Klang überhaupt.

Am Vienna Gay Men's Chorus schätzt er besonders, dass viele unterschiedliche Stimmen gemeinsam eine laute und stolze Botschaft für Gemeinschaft, Vielfalt und Zusammenhalt senden.

This Saturday, the Vienna Gay Men’s Chorus is thrilled to perform as part of the Opening Show of the 18th Diversity Ball at Vienna City Hall! 🏛️🎶

Under this year’s motto “Move With Us” the Diversity Ball brings people together to celebrate diversity, inclusion, acceptance, and the power of community. And we couldn’t be more excited to add our voices to the celebration. 💜

Meet Marco, one of the Tenor 1 voices of the Vienna Gay Men's Chorus 🌈✨

Originally from Austria, Marco is a proud gay man who believes music is honest, universal, and brings people together like nothing else. 💜

His playlist is filled with musicals, movie soundtracks, and the greatest hits of the '80s, '90s, and 2000s. When he's not singing, he enjoys traveling, city trips, biking, cinema, spa days, and spending time with friends.

What Marco loves most about the **Vienna Gay Men's Chorus** is exploring different musical styles, performing for audiences, and being part of a supportive community. He also appreciates working with Artistic Director Dr. Casey J. Hayes, whose respect, passion, and expertise inspire the choir every semester.

Meet Steffen Rother, one of the Bass 1 voices of the Vienna Gay Men's Chorus 🌈✨
Originally from Germany, Steffen (he/him) believes music is the best way to express thoughts, emotions, and messages together as a community. 💜

When he's not singing, you'll find him traveling, playing the clarinet, or at the gym. His playlist ranges from classical music and musicals to jazz and klezmer.

Fun fact: Steffen is a big fan of cruises and loves exploring the world by ship. 🚢

What he enjoys most about the Vienna Gay Men's Chorus is the colorful, welcoming community, where everyone treats each other with respect and shares the joy of making music together.

There are moments when words don’t feel like enough.

This weekend, our hearts are with everyone affected by the hateful event at Berlin CSD. We are thinking of those who were injured, their loved ones, the organizers, volunteers, and every person who showed up simply to celebrate love, identity, and community.

Pride was born from courage. It exists because generations before us refused to hide, even in the face of fear. That courage lives on today, not because we are fearless, but because we continue to choose love, visibility, and each other.

We were and we still are a resilient community, we will heal and stand again, to march with Pride against hatred.

To our friends in Berlin: we stand with you. We grieve with you. And we will continue to raise our voices for a world where every LGBTQIA+ person can celebrate safely, proudly, and without fear.

May we never stop showing up for one another.
