Este proyecto empezó mucho antes de que existieran los planos, los materiales o la estructura final.

En octubre de 2025 viajé a Fort Wayne, Indiana, para recorrer el barrio Harvester y conocer a las personas que viven allí. Durante esos días escuché historias sobre la antigua fábrica que dio identidad al lugar durante generaciones y sobre cómo su cierre transformó profundamente la vida del barrio.

Muchas de las conversaciones que tuve con vecinos terminaron formando parte de la obra.

Uno de los momentos más especiales fue registrar las huellas de las manos de la comunidad, que hoy forman parte de la instalación como una manera de dejar presente a quienes construyen la identidad de este lugar todos los días.

The Garner habla del pasado industrial del barrio, pero también de las personas que siguen imaginando su futuro.

This project began long before the blueprints, materials, or final structure existed.

In October 2025, I traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to tour the Harvester neighborhood and meet the people who live there. During my visit, I heard stories about the old factory that defined the area for generations and about how its closure profoundly transformed life in the neighborhood.

Many of the conversations I had with residents ended up becoming part of the artwork.

One of the most special moments was capturing the handprints of the community members; these now form part of the installation, serving as a way to honor those who shape the neighborhood's identity every day.

The Garner speaks to the neighborhood's industrial past, but also to the people who continue imagining its future.

🏔️ Parece Mentira

Después de tres años de trabajo, la instalación encontró su lugar en el Ledges Event Center, en Coalville, Utah.
La obra está formada por grandes módulos metálicos inspirados en las formaciones rocosas de la región y pensados para ser recorridos, habitados y explorados.

También incorpora símbolos magnéticos creados junto a la comunidad, que pueden moverse libremente para construir nuevas historias sobre la pieza.
Para mí este proyecto significó mucho más que una nueva obra.

Fue la primera vez explorando el lenguaje de la instalación y la escultura pública, trabajando con materiales y procesos completamente distintos a los que venía desarrollando hasta ahora.

Siento que abrió un camino nuevo que todavía tengo muchas ganas de seguir explorando.

🏔️ It Seems Unreal

After three years of work, the installation found its home at the Ledges Event Center in Coalville, Utah.
The piece consists of large metal modules inspired by the region's rock formations, designed to be walked through, inhabited, and explored.

It also incorporates magnetic symbols created in collaboration with the community; these can be moved freely to build new stories around the artwork.

For me, this project meant much more than just a new piece of art.

It was my first time exploring the language of installation art and public sculpture, working with materials and processes completely different from those I had used previously.

I feel it opened up a new path that I am still very eager to continue exploring.

🏔️ Parece Mentira

Volver tres años seguidos a la misma región de Utah fue una experiencia muy especial.
La primera vez viajé para pintar un mural comunitario en Hoytsville. Después regresé dos años más para desarrollar Parece Mentira.

Cada viaje me permitió conocer un poco más este lugar.

Hay valles entre montañas, senderos increíbles para hacer trekking, lagos, diques y parques que parecen irreales, como Mirror Lake, en el bosque nacional Uinta-Wasatch-Cache. También nos hospedamos en un rancho en el valle de Oakley, rodeados de caballos y naturaleza.

Con el tiempo dejé de sentir que estaba viajando para hacer una obra.

Sentí que estaba conociendo un territorio que, de alguna manera, también terminó formando parte de mí.

🏔️ It Seems Unreal

Returning to the same region of Utah for three consecutive years was a truly special experience.
The first time, I traveled there to paint a community mural in Hoytsville. I later returned for two more years to develop It Seems Unreal.

Each trip allowed me to get to know this place a little better.

There are valleys nestled between mountains, incredible hiking trails, and lakes, reservoirs, and parks that look almost unreal—like Mirror Lake in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. We also stayed at a ranch in Oakley Valley, surrounded by horses and nature.

Over time, I stopped feeling like I was traveling simply to create a work of art.

I felt like I was getting to know a landscape that, in a way, ended up becoming a part of me, too.

🏔️ Parece Mentira

Una parte fundamental de esta instalación nació alrededor de una mesa.

Durante el proyecto trabajamos junto a una arqueóloga del estado de Utah y con Lucy Washakie, integrante de la comunidad Eastern Shoshone, para conocer el significado de los petroglifos presentes en esta región desde la cultura Fremont.

Después organizamos talleres abiertos con vecinos de Coalville para imaginar cuáles podrían ser los símbolos de la comunidad actual.

Esos dibujos se transformaron en imanes que hoy forman parte de la instalación y pueden moverse libremente, permitiendo que cada persona cree nuevas combinaciones y nuevos relatos.

Me gusta pensar que la participación de la comunidad no terminó el día del taller. Sigue ocurriendo cada vez que alguien interactúa con la obra.

🏔️ It Seems Unreal

A fundamental part of this installation was born around a table.

During the project, we worked alongside an archaeologist from the State of Utah and Lucy Washakie, a member of the Eastern Shoshone community, to understand the significance of the petroglyphs in this region—which date back to the Fremont culture.

We then organized open workshops with Coalville residents to envision what symbols might represent the current community.

Those drawings were transformed into magnets that are now part of the installation; they can be moved freely, allowing each person to create new combinations and new stories.

I like to think that community participation didn’t end on the day of the workshop. It continues to happen every time someone interacts with the artwork.

🏔️ Parece Mentira

Después de fabricar cada módulo llegó uno de los momentos más inesperados del proyecto.

Nos subimos a manejar grúas para aplastar las estructuras metálicas y romper deliberadamente su geometría.

Buscábamos que el metal empezara a comportarse como las rocas que habíamos estudiado durante semanas: con pliegues, irregularidades y una apariencia moldeada por el tiempo.

Siempre me interesó esa pregunta:
¿Qué pasa cuando un material industrial empieza a ser parte del paisaje?

Este trabajo tuvo muchas etapas de proceso, pero creo que en este momento apareció la identidad de la obra.

🏔️ It Seems Unreal

After each module was fabricated, one of the project's most unexpected moments arrived.

We got into the cranes to crush the metal structures and deliberately break their geometry.

We wanted the metal to begin behaving like the rocks we had studied for weeks—featuring folds, irregularities, and an appearance shaped by time.

I had always been interested in that question:
What happens when an industrial material begins to become part of the landscape?

This work involved many stages of development, but I believe the piece’s true identity emerged at that moment.

🏔️ Parece Mentira

Uno de los desafíos más grandes de este proyecto fue aprender un lenguaje completamente nuevo.

Era la primera vez que trabajaba con una instalación realizada en metal a gran escala, utilizando acero, estructuras modulares y pintura horneada para lograr una mayor durabilidad en el espacio público.

Con Romeo Sosa empezamos construyendo grandes módulos geométricos que, más adelante, iban a transformarse por completo.

Me interesaba explorar cómo un material tan rígido podía terminar transmitiendo algo completamente orgánico.

Ese proceso de prueba y exploración fue una de las partes que más disfruté de todo el proyecto.

🏔️ It Seems Unreal

One of the biggest challenges of this project was learning a completely new language.

It was my first time working on a large-scale metal installation, using steel, modular structures, and baked-on paint to ensure greater durability in a public space.

Romeo Sosa and I began by constructing large geometric modules that would later go through a complete transformation.

I was interested in exploring how such a rigid material could ultimately convey something entirely organic.

That experimentation and exploration process was one of the parts of the project I enjoyed the most.

🏔️ Parece Mentira

En 2023, junto al artista Romeo Sosa, comenzamos a desarrollar una instalación de arte público para el Ledges Event Center, en Coalville, Utah, invitados por Arts Council Park City & Summit County

Fue mi primera instalación de gran escala y también mi primera experiencia trabajando con metal.

Antes de diseñar la obra pasamos varios días recorriendo la región. Nos interesaba entender el paisaje antes que intervenirlo: las formaciones rocosas conocidas como Ledges, los musgos, los árboles, las texturas y la paleta de colores que aparecía en la naturaleza.
Toda la instalación nació de esa observación.

Gracias a Katherine Scott, que nos abrió las puertas de su estancia durante el proyecto y fue parte clave de este trabajo ♥

🏔️ It seems unreal

In 2023, with artist Romeo Sosa, we began developing a public art installation for the Ledges Event Center in Coalville, Utah, by invitation of PCSC Arts.
It was my first large-scale installation and also my first experience working with metal.

Before designing the piece, we spent several days exploring the region. We wanted to understand the landscape before intervening in it—the rock formations known as "the Ledges", the moss, the trees, the textures, and the color palette found in nature.
The entire installation grew out of that observation.

Sunset at Mojave 🌅

Este proyecto apareció después de pasar varios días recorriendo el desierto de Mojave.
Lo que más me quedó grabado fue el silencio. La sensación de que aparentemente no pasa nada, pero al mismo tiempo todo está vivo: animales escondidos, plantas adaptándose al calor extremo y colores que cambian constantemente con la luz.

Cuando volví a Las Vegas me divertía mucho la idea de llevar toda esa energía silenciosa al medio de una ciudad hecha de velocidad, autopistas y movimiento permanente.

Por eso llené estos gabinetes urbanos de colores inspirados en los atardeceres del desierto, junto a animales y plantas nativas de la región. Quería que apareciera un fragmento de ese paisaje en medio del cemento.

Además, fue la primera vez que trabajé sobre este tipo de estructuras. Me gustó mucho el desafío de pintar en 360°, pensando cada cara de las cajas como parte de una misma historia.

This project came about after I spent several days traveling through the Mojave Desert.
What stayed with me most was the silence. It was the feeling that, while nothing seemed to be happening on the surface, everything was actually alive: animals in hiding, plants adapting to the extreme heat, and colors constantly shifting with the light.

When I returned to Las Vegas, I loved the idea of ​​bringing that quiet energy into the heart of a city defined by speed, highways, and constant motion.

That’s why I covered these utility cabinets in colors inspired by desert sunsets, featuring the region's native animals and plants. I wanted to create a glimpse of that landscape amidst the concrete.

It was also my first time working on structures like these. I really enjoyed the challenge of painting in 360 degrees, treating each side of the boxes as part of a single, cohesive story.
