In Otherland is a photographic odyssey across the lives of the Lebanese population living abroad, told through a series of environmental portraits taken at home or at work. It started in July 2015 as a way to reconnect with friends and family who've left Lebanon and who shared my own experience of moving to a different country. This proved to be a great ice-breaker when meeting strangers and the project grew to include anyone and everyone I could find living in a city I happened to be visiting at the time. Just over a year later, In Otherland has grown into a collection of nearly 130 environmental portraits taken at home, and sometimes, at work. I use the term 'environmental' because I make it a point to show the person in the space they occupy. Each room, apartment or home is one more missing piece to add to the immense patchwork of a scattered country and identity. The lives and stories that unfold abroad keep Lebanon both in limbo and in flux - can you name a family that doesn't have someone abroad?
