Alia Malek is a journalist, author and former civil rights lawyer whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Foreign Policy, The New Yorker, the Nation, the Christian Science Monitor and other publications. In April 2011, Alia moved to Damascus, Syria and wrote anonymously for several outlets from inside the country as it began to disintegrate. She is the author of “The Home That Was Our Country” about the many places Syrians have gone (including Armenia), winning the Hiett Prize in the Humanities (2016).

EVN մեդիա փառատոնի վերջին միջոցառմանը զրուցեցին լրագրող Ալիա Մալեկը և Ռուբինա Մարկոսեանը: «Ցավոք, մենք ապրում ենք մի աշխարհում, որտեղ միջազգային նորմերը հասել են մի տեղ, որտեղ մենք պետք է արդարացնենք դրանք: Կարծում եմ՝ դրանք դատարկ են ու ընտրովի։ Մենք պետք է խոսենք շատ տեղերի մասին, որտեղ պատասխանատվություն չկա», ասաց Ալիան՝ անդրադառնալով միջազգային իրավունքի և արդարադատության համակագին:

For our very last event of , journalists Alia Malek and Roubina Margossian took the stage for an Up Close and Personal conversation. “Unfortunately, we live in a place where international norms have reached a point where we need to vindicate them. I think they are empty and selective. We need to talk about many places where there is no accountability,” said Malek, talking about international law and justice system.

Մտածելու տեղիք տվող պանելային քննարկման ժամանակ գործարար, տեղեկատվական տեխնոլոգիաների, քաղաքացիական հասարակության և ակադեմիական ոլորտի ներկայացուցիչներն անդրադարձան այն համակարգերին, որոնց միջոցով հասարակական կառույցները կարող են միավորվել և գործել՝ բարձրացնելու դիմակայությունը։ Ժողովրդավարության զարգացման հիմնադրամի տնօրեն Նաիրա Սուլթանյանը պատմեց, թե ինչ արագությամբ քաղհասարակությունն ինքնակազմակերպեց 2020-ի պատերազմի ժամանակ․ «Մենք տեսանք, թե որքան ժամանակ և ջանք են ծախսել օգնություն տրամադրելու և իրենց կոնկրետ շահառուների համար ռեսուրսներ գտնելու համար: Նրանք նամակներ էին գրում միջազգային կազմակերպություններին` փորձելով բացատրել մեզ հետ տեղի ունեցած սարսափի ծավալները: Իրավաբանական հանրությունը և քաղաքացիական հասարակությունը սկսեցին փաստագրել Ադրբեջանի կողմից մարդու իրավունքների կոպիտ խախտումները և նպաստեցին նաև ներքին կայունությանը՝ ճգնաժամի ընթացքում պահպանելով ժողովրդավարությունը»։

In a thought-provoking panel discussion, representatives from the business community, IT sector, civil society, and academia delved into the mechanisms through which societal structures can be mobilized to increase resilience. Naira Sultayan, Director of the Democracy Development Foundation talked baout how Armenian civil society got very quickly organized during the 2020 war: "We saw how much time and effort they spent to deliver aid and find resources for their specific beneficiaries. They wrote letters to international organizations, trying to explain the scope of the horror that happened to us. The legal community and civil society started documenting the gross human rights violations by Azerbaijan."

Soviet posters, despite their political messages, have always been visually and stylistically iconic. These “reminders and disciplines” penetrated every state institution, factory, school, and public space throughout the republics. Curated by Roubina Margossian, managing editor of EVN Report, this exhibition is a collection of personal responses by various artists, writers, and photographers to the echo of Russia-led influence that lingers long past the decay of its posters.

Բեռլինաբնակ մրցանակակիր լրագրող, գրող և կինոգործիչ Բեն Մաուկը քիչ առաջ ունեցավ զրույց Րաֆֆի Խաչատուրեանի հետ․ Բենի առաջին վավերագրական ֆիլմը, “Reeducated”, Նյու Յորքերին արժանացրել է իրենց առաջին Էմմի և Փիբոդի մրցանակները և ցուցադրվել ավելի քան 30 երկրներում։ Արևմտյան մարգինալացված լրատվամիջոցներին համոզիչ և անսովոր պատմություններ ներկայացնելու մասին Բենն ասաց. «Այս տեսակի իրադարձություններ ներկայացնելը դժվար է: Ինձ հետաքրքրում է միգրացիան այնպիսի երկրներում, որոնց մասին առանձնապես չի գրվում, և դա որոշ չափով նաև կարիերայի ընտրություն է: Եվ այս պատմությունները լուսաբանող անգլախոս լրագրողներն այնքան էլ շատ չեն։ Պատմությունը նախապես ներկայացնելիս ես այն պատկերում եմ որպես «էկզոտիկ» և տեսողականորեն տպավորիչ՝ ստանալով ավելի մեծ ուշադրություն և կարողանամ լուսաբանել այդ պատմությունները»։

Berlin-based award-winning journalist, writer, and filmmaker Ben Mauk sat down for an Up-close and Personal interview with Raffi Khatchadourian. Ben’s first documentary film, “Reeducated,” won The New Yorker its first-ever Emmy and Peabody awards and has screened at more than 30 festivals. Talking about convincing and pitching uncommon stories to Western marginalized media, Ben said: “Pitching these kinds of events is difficult. I am interested in migration in countries that are not particularly written about, and to some extent, it’s a career choice as well. There are not many Anglophone journalists covering these stories. When pitching a story, I frame it as exotic and visually striking to get more attention and be able to cover those stories.”
